In addition, the collapse of ordinary economic well-being will discourage pharmaceutical corporations from investing in drug development projects that depend upon large populations able to afford them to rationalize costly research.

This may be an ironic comeuppance for wealthy populations that have enjoyed  the benefits of such drugs in the past, even if their development depended upon interim periods of universal health care a la the Canada experiment which slowly began unravelling post 2000.
